Indianapolis is offering a free summer program called ‘Summer in the City: Safe Summer Nights’ for kids and teens ages 12-17. The program provides a safe space for youth to connect with each other, network, and learn about different community organizations.
Program Details
The program is a partnership with Let Them Talk and the Indianapolis Office of Public Health and Safety. It takes place every Friday and Saturday night from now until August 29. Activities include games, music, and workshops focusing on topics such as mental health awareness and financial literacy.
Community partners will also be participating, teaching topics like healthy relationships and life skills. Additionally, there are planned field trips to places like the Roller Cave.
The goal of the program is to keep kids safe and provide an alternative to making poor choices or being involved in violent activities. According to Dr. Heather Savage, executive director and co-founder of Let Them Talk, ‘The goal here is to give kids an alternative to things that will keep them out of trouble.’
Attendance numbers are already exceeding expectations, with kids coming from all across the city to participate. The program is free, but registration is required.
