Cody Regional Health Showcases Robotic Surgery to Community

Cody Regional Health is extending an invitation to the community to explore the cutting-edge DaVinci Surgical Robot, a significant advancement in medical technology available right here in the Big Horn Basin. The event, scheduled for June 9, 2026, will be held at the Cody Regional Health West Park Hospital campus, providing a unique opportunity for residents to learn about robotic-assisted surgery.

Event Details and Community Engagement

The event will kick off with a lunch presentation from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM in the Pitchfork Room, where general surgeons Dr. Thomas H. Etter and Dr. Rebecca Deal will discuss the workings and benefits of robotic-assisted surgery. Attendees will gain insights into how this technology is being utilized at Cody Regional Health and its implications for patient care in the region. The presentation will be complemented by a live demonstration of the DaVinci system.

Following the lunch session, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the hospital will host open demonstrations. Community members are encouraged to participate in hands-on experiences with the robotic system, engage with the surgical team, and ask questions about this innovative technology.

Involving the Next Generation

In a bid to engage younger members of the community, Cody Regional Health has invited elementary school students across the Big Horn Basin to participate in naming the new robotic system. Students are encouraged to submit their name suggestions by May 20, with the winning name to be announced on May 27. This initiative not only involves students in the technological advancements of their local healthcare system but also fosters a sense of community involvement and pride.

According to Ashley Trudo, Cody Regional Health Spokesperson, the introduction of the DaVinci Surgical System represents a meaningful advancement in patient care, allowing residents to access high-quality surgical procedures without the need to travel far from home. The system enhances surgical precision, flexibility, and control, often leading to smaller incisions, reduced recovery times, and improved patient outcomes.

Space for the lunch presentation is limited to 40 guests, and those interested are encouraged to RSVP by June 5, 2026, to secure their spot.
