Atlanta Women’s Foundation Focuses on Mental Health

The Atlanta Women’s Foundation is gaining a deeper understanding of how financial hardship and mental health are intertwined, particularly for single mothers struggling to make ends meet.

Mental Health and Financial Stress

According to Kari B. Love, chief executive officer of the Atlanta Women’s Foundation, concerns about mental and emotional well-being often take a back seat to immediate needs for women in poverty. The foundation is working to support organizations that provide mental health services, but many of these organizations are facing rising costs and struggling to fund their programs.

A 2025 survey by LifeStance, a mental health company, found that while 93 percent of respondents believe mental health care is as important as physical health care, 60 percent had avoided seeking mental health care due to financial constraints.

Upcoming Event

Mental health will be among the themes at the foundation’s annual Numbers Too Big to Ignore luncheon in November, which will feature actress and mental health advocate Goldie Hawn. The event is expected to draw 1,600 attendees and raise $1.2 million for the foundation.

The Atlanta Women’s Foundation also offers a program called Inspire Atlanta, which helps volunteers understand the challenges facing women and girls through simulations and exercises. The program has been successful, with the most recent class raising over $800,000 to support the foundation’s work.
