The Film’s Creation
Molencupp decided to make the film in August 2025, and it has been a whirlwind experience, with the film’s budget surpassing its initial goal of $20,000 and eventually reaching over $60,000. The film features a 26-person cast and an award-winning crew.
Molencupp credits the Atlanta community for the film’s success, stating that the city’s support and goodwill were instrumental in getting the film made. He also notes that the film is a ‘very Atlanta film’, featuring various Atlanta hotspots such as Lore, Boys Next Door Menswear, and Midtown Butcher Shoppe.
The Story
‘In Between’ is a story about Nick, a gay man who is trying to find his place in the world. The film follows his journey as he navigates through the ‘in between’ and learns to love himself. The story is based on Molencupp’s own life and experiences, and he plays the lead role in the film.
The film’s producer, Elle Army, praises the story, calling it ‘universal and personal’ and stating that it has ‘so much heart and so much soul’. She also notes that the film’s authenticity is rooted in its realness, making it relatable to anyone who watches it.
