A blood drive in El Paso, Texas, is honoring first responders. The ‘Be the Backup’ blood drive, hosted by Vitalant, will take place from June 26-28 at Cielo Vista Mall and Mesilla Valley Mall in Las Cruces.
Summer Blood Donations Decrease
According to Vitalant, summer is often referred to as ‘trauma season,’ when crashes, travel-related injuries, and other emergencies increase, while blood donations decrease. This can challenge keeping a stable blood supply when patients need it most.
Monique Hilverding, Donor Recruitment Manager, said, ‘First responders are there when lives are on the line, and they depend on hospitals having blood available for patients in critical need.’ The blood drive gives the community an opportunity to stand behind those who serve and help ensure lifesaving blood is ready when emergencies occur.
Donors can book an appointment at the Vitalant website or walk in to participate in the ‘Be the Backup’ blood drive.
