A Bexar County sheriff’s deputy was rammed by a motorcyclist during a high-speed chase last week. The suspect, Cyrus Eckman, 26, was arrested at his home in Cibolo on Tuesday morning.
Incident Details
The incident occurred when the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a speeding driver. Eckman, who was riding a distinctive motorcycle, swerved in front of the deputy’s car and used his foot peg to ram the vehicle, tearing a hole in the side.
The driver of the car that the deputy was pursuing was a friend of Eckman’s, whom he had met earlier that night at a bar. After the ramming, the deputy called off the chase, and both the motorcyclist and the driver sped away.
However, investigators were able to develop clues leading them to Eckman, including information about the distinctive motorcycle and a very distinctive helmet he was wearing. The sheriff’s department also identified Eckman based on information obtained from the driver of the car he was racing.
