Rising Support for Socialism

A recent Gallup poll found that 39% of U.S. adults view socialism positively, with 54% viewing capitalism positively and 81% viewing free enterprise positively. However, among younger adults, the support for socialism is higher, with 62% of Americans aged 18-29 holding a favorable view of socialism.

Vance argued that the solution to this problem is to intensify President Donald Trump’s economic nationalism, rather than returning to prior approaches. He stated that ‘a lot of Americans look at this rising tide of socialism and say, ‘How did we get here?’ We got here by 40 years of bipartisan leaders selling our industrial base to foreign countries, allowing low-wage illegal immigrants to come in and compete with Americans for jobs, by destroying the foundation of the middle class.’

Democratic Socialism

New York City’s new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, has advanced affordability-focused policies, including rent freezes and free public buses. However, critics argue that such measures can reduce housing supply, discourage investment, and slow economic growth.
