Sheridan City Council Awards $64,125 Crushing Project Contract to Wagner Ranch Services

The Sheridan City Council met on Monday night for its regular business session and voted to award the 2026 crushing project to Wagner Ranch Services. The contract, valued at $64,125, was the lowest qualified bid and meets the city’s standards for cost and capability.

Project purpose and process

City Engineer Thomas Morneau explained that the crushing project is part of Sheridan’s ongoing effort to recycle construction waste. Every few years the city collects excess concrete and asphalt from both municipal and private projects. When the stockpile grows large enough to occupy valuable landfill space, the material is crushed into a one‑inch aggregate.

The anticipated volume is roughly 5,500 cubic yards, which translates to about 6,600 tons of crushed material. Once processed, the aggregate is put to immediate use in a variety of city initiatives. It serves as a base for soft‑service pathways, helps repair the landfill road, and is used by utility crews for backfilling and pipe bedding on their projects.

Benefits for Sheridan residents

Recycling the material reduces the need for new quarry‑derived stone, saving taxpayers money and lowering the city’s environmental footprint. By reusing the crushed aggregate, Sheridan can keep landfill costs down and preserve space for future waste disposal needs.

Mayor [Name] praised the council’s decision, noting that the project reflects the city’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and sustainable practices. “Choosing the most cost‑effective, qualified contractor ensures we get the best value for our taxpayers while protecting our community’s resources,” the mayor said.

Next steps

Wagner Ranch Services will begin mobilizing equipment in early 2026. The city expects the crushing operation to be completed within the calendar year, after which the reclaimed aggregate will be available for upcoming road and utility projects.

Residents who have questions about the project or its impact on local traffic can contact the Public Works Department during regular business hours.
