Plano Advances Five Key Transportation Projects to Ease Traffic and Upgrade Infrastructure

The City of Plano is moving forward on a suite of transportation improvements aimed at enhancing safety, reducing congestion, and modernizing public infrastructure. According to the city’s Community Investment Program, five projects—both ongoing and upcoming—are on track for completion this fall.

New Traffic Signals at Six Intersections

The city council approved a plan on September 28 to install new traffic signals at six key intersections and to modify the existing signals at the SH 121 and Spring Creek Parkway junction. Design work is expected to be finished within the next year, setting the stage for smoother traffic flow in rapidly growing areas of Plano.

Legacy Area Intersection Improvements

Crews are adding turn lanes and safety upgrades to five intersections in west Plano’s Legacy area. Work has been completed at all sites except the Legacy Drive and Corporate Drive intersection, where utility conflicts have caused a delay. Engineering Manager Clay Lipscomb says the remaining work should be finished by November.

Sidewalk Repairs in East Plano

Residential sidewalks in east Plano are being repaired on an as‑needed basis. Public Works Manager Drew Zaeske notes that the city has already spent $3.98 million of the allocated funds on these repairs, responding to resident requests to maintain safe walking paths.

Arterial Overlay Project 2026

The arterial overlay initiative is applying a new pavement layer and conducting minor concrete repairs across several major roadways. According to Zaeske, all concrete repairs and asphalt overlays are complete, and the project is on schedule to finish in early October. The city is now focusing on applying permanent pavement markings to finalize the work.

Bob Woodruff Park Solar Lighting Upgrade

In a sustainability push, Plano is replacing 17 traditional electric light poles around the pond at Bob Woodruff Park with solar‑powered fixtures. Material sourcing delays earlier in the project pushed the timeline back, but the upgrade is now expected to be completed by October 19.

What These Projects Mean for Residents

These improvements reflect Plano’s commitment to safe, efficient transportation while supporting family‑friendly neighborhoods. By addressing traffic bottlenecks, enhancing pedestrian infrastructure, and investing in renewable energy lighting, the city is aligning its public works agenda with the values of traditional families and responsible stewardship of community resources.

City officials encourage residents to stay informed about construction schedules and to report any utility conflicts that could affect project timelines. Continued community involvement ensures that Plano’s transportation network meets the needs of its growing population while preserving the quality of life that makes the city a desirable place to live and raise a family.
