Muncie businesses rally to support family of teen football player Chris Wilson Jr.

When tragedy struck Muncie on Monday morning, the community responded with compassion and action. Christopher Wilson Jr., a 17‑year‑old high‑school football standout, was shot and killed inside a car. Police have not yet identified any suspects, leaving the Wilson family searching for answers and support.

Local businesses step up

Within hours of the news, a wave of local entrepreneurs began offering items for sale, with all proceeds earmarked for the Wilson family. Momma’s on a Mission, a nonprofit dedicated to helping families in crisis, reported that its fundraising efforts have already generated more than $5,000.

Darling Tassels, a downtown shop known for its handcrafted goods, is selling custom‑designed magnets for $5 each. Shiny’s Sweet Treats, a beloved bakery on the east side, is offering brownies at the same price point. Both businesses emphasized that every dollar goes directly to the Wilson family’s relief fund.

Community‑wide participation

Beyond the storefronts, dozens of individual volunteers have printed t‑shirts bearing Chris’s name and jersey number, selling them at school events and local gatherings. Homemade baked goods, ranging from cookies to pies, are also being offered at church bazaars and neighborhood block parties.

Organizers originally planned to conclude the fundraising drive on Friday, coinciding with the high‑school rivalry football game that Chris would have loved to watch. However, after seeing the outpouring of generosity, they announced they will keep the sales going for as long as community members continue to purchase items.

Why the response matters

For many in Muncie, the swift mobilization reflects the town’s deep‑rooted values of family, faith, and personal liberty. Neighbors describe the effort as a tangible expression of Christian compassion, a reminder that the strongest neighborhoods are built on families helping one another in times of need.

“We want to honor Chris’s memory by supporting his family in any way we can,” said Sarah Miller, the owner of Darling Tassels. “Our community is our greatest strength, and when tragedy hits, we come together to lift each other up.”

How to contribute

Anyone interested in helping can purchase merchandise at the participating stores, visit Momma’s on a Mission’s online donation page, or attend upcoming community events where additional items will be sold. All contributions are tax‑deductible and will be used to cover funeral expenses, medical bills and other immediate needs of the Wilson family.

The collective effort underscores a hopeful message: even in the face of violence and loss, Muncie’s residents remain committed to caring for one another, embodying the Christian principle of loving one’s neighbor.
