A tragic accident occurred in Pasco County on Saturday when a motorcyclist lost his life in a collision with a turning SUV on State Road 54.
Details of the Incident
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident happened at approximately 3:10 PM. A 20-year-old man from Tampa was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle westbound on SR-54 at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a 53-year-old man from New Port Richey was driving eastbound on SR-54 in a Chevy Suburban.
As both vehicles approached the intersection of Player Drive, the driver of the Suburban attempted to make a left turn, directly into the path of the oncoming motorcycle. The impact left the motorcyclist with severe injuries. First responders rushed him to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Authorities have not released the names of the drivers involved as the investigation continues.
