High school students from northwest Louisiana were recognized Saturday during the Shreveport-Bossier-DeSoto African American Scholarship Awards at the West Shreveport Branch Library. Each student received a $1,000 scholarship to be used at the college of their choice.
Scholarship Winners
The scholarship winners were Ellisa Bryant, Ellise Bryant, Alton Fullwood, Brandon Mays, Jr., Larry McDuffie, Tyrihanna Furgeson, Ashlee Mitchell, Jayla Williams, Ahmelia Kimble, Joseph Porter, Carrington Hill, Kadyn Fuller, Kollin Hood, Braelyn Latin, Lashawn Davis, Cory Brown, Jr., Jamia Shepherd, Indya Carper, A’man Combs and Jaylon Webb.
As part of the program, each scholarship recipient read an original essay centered on this year’s theme, ‘Social Media’s Impact on Mental Health.’ The annual awards program recognizes local students for their academic achievement and writing while helping support their higher education goals.
