The town of Estancia has declared a water emergency. In a meeting on June 25, the town’s governing body passed a resolution declaring the emergency due to challenges in maintaining sufficient water reserves and pressure for drinking water and fire protection capabilities.
Emergency Measures
The emergency declaration gives the Estancia mayor, town clerk, public works supervisor, and other officials authority to implement emergency measures, including mandatory water conservation restrictions, restrictions on non-essential water use, and emergency procurement of equipment and services.
The declaration also requests assistance from state and federal agencies to address the water issue. The town determined that continued operation under current conditions presents a risk of water shortages, service interruptions, inadequate fire suppression, and other threats to public safety.
