A siamang gibbon named Eve at the BioPark and Zoo temporarily adopted a baby robin that found its way into the zoo last month. Eve’s maternal instincts kicked in, as she has a five-year-old daughter of her own. Megan Agena, a member of the BioPark’s primate care team, observed Eve’s behavior and noted that she was grooming the baby robin, attempting to nurse it, and trying to comfort it whenever it made a noise.
Fortunately, the BioPark care team was able to retrieve the baby robin and return it to its mother. Siamangs are black-furred gibbons native to the Malay Peninsula and Sumatran rain and monsoon forests, known for their distinctive throat sacs, which they use to vocalize, making a deep boom or high-pitched sound.
