Firefighters are looking into what they called an explosion on Monday at a Durham building. According to the Durham Fire Department, firefighters responded to an automatic fire alarm around 5 p.m. at Kymera International on Weck Drive. While on their way, they received information about a possible explosion at the facility.
Nearly 50 firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the fire “within a short period of time.” Firefighters told WRAL News that all employees safely evacuated before they arrived to the scene and they didn’t find anyone inside after they arrived. No one was injured.
Firefighters said they’re working with the building’s owners to complete final mitigation efforts and make sure the building is safe. The fire remains under investigation by the Durham Fire Department investigator.
