The University of Oklahoma announced its home opener during the 2026-27 football season will now take place on a Friday, one day earlier than initially scheduled. The Sooners will face UTEP in Norman on Friday, Sept. 4.

The game will be streamed on the SEC Network+, and kickoff is set for 7 p.m. University of Oklahoma Vice President and Director of Athletics Roger Denny said, “Moving our home opener against UTEP to Friday night presents a unique opportunity to showcase Oklahoma Football.”
OU Head Coach Brent Venables also expressed excitement about the rare Friday night game under the lights on Owen Field, saying, “I expect the environment to be absolutely incredible, and I know our players will feed off that electricity.” The last time OU played on a Friday night, they defeated Temple 51-3.
