Bardstown Road businesses in Louisville are calling for change after a string of incidents, including fights and shootings, have become too common. The mayor’s office says it is exploring more options to crack down on crime.
Incidents on the Rise
This weekend, the Louisville Metro Police Department made 24 arrests, issued 40 citations, and towed two vehicles in the Bardstown Road corridor after multiple fights escalated to two shootings. Highland residents, like Robert Suarez, say the incidents have become too common.
Eddie Stacey, co-owner of a computer store in the area, says more police are needed and area bars should close sooner. “I believe that these bars and restaurants ought to have a last call of alcohol at 1, and you got to be out by 2,” Stacey said.
The Hub, a local business, says they take multiple actions to make the area safer, including hiring security and using metal detectors. However, they are considering closing temporarily until the city takes action.
