A Lehigh woman got a frightening wake-up call early Saturday morning when a truck crashed into her bedroom, then drove off and wrecked again minutes later. Shelly Selhaver said she was asleep around 4 a.m. when the truck slammed into her apartment. She said the walls of her bedroom came crashing in, her bed was thrown to the other side of the room, and the truck’s headlights were shining in her face.
Tire tracks in the grass show where the truck missed a curve on School Hill Street. Selhaver’s daughter and son-in-law said she was lucky to escape with only a small cut on her toe. The Webster County Sheriff’s Office said the truck backed out of the apartment and kept going east through town, crossing the Des Moines River and leaving town on East Hill Street, before veering off the road and falling into a ravine.
A passenger in the truck got out on their own, but deputies said the driver was pinned inside for more than an hour before being rescued and flown to a hospital. The driver’s name has not been released, and deputies tell KCCI charges are pending.
