Albuquerque Expands Cooling Efforts

As temperatures climb into the triple digits, the city of Albuquerque is expanding its efforts to help residents stay cool by turning on sprinklers at neighborhood parks throughout the week.

Rotating Schedule

The Parks & Recreation Department will rotate sprinkler operations at five parks each day from 1 to 1:30 p.m. through Thursday. The temporary cooling stations are intended to provide families, children, and anyone spending time outdoors with relief as afternoon temperatures are forecast to reach 100 degrees or higher.

The rotating schedule includes parks across all areas of the city, including Ventana Ranch Park, Alamosa Park, Chelwood Park, 4-H Park, and Ross Park on Tuesday, followed by Redlands Park, Loma Del Norte Park, Singing Arrow Park, Dennis Chavez Park, and Aztec Park on Wednesday, and Hyder Park, Holiday Park, Vista Del Norte Park, Santa Fe Village Park, and Barelas Park on Thursday.

City officials are also reminding residents that Albuquerque’s public pools and splash pads remain available during the hot weather. Health officials recommend limiting outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, drinking plenty of water, wearing light-colored clothing, and checking on older adults and others who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illness.
