A 75-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle while in a Sturgeon Bay crosswalk. The incident occurred just after 11 a.m. Monday at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Michigan Street.
The driver, 73-year-old Susanne Scheider of Sturgeon Bay, said she was watching and waiting for a group of people to decide on which direction they were going to cross a different portion of that intersection. When that group made their decision, the driver proceeded to turn left from S. 3rd Avenue onto Michigan Street and headed west, striking the woman who was walking from west to east.
The injured woman was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Green Bay, where she later died. The driver was issued two citations: failure to stop for a stop sign and failure to yield to a pedestrian.
