Families in Santa Fe can meet local law enforcement and pick up school supplies during Tuesday’s National Night Out celebration. The event, hosted by the New Mexico Department of Public Safety and the Santa Fe Police Department, will feature free activities, food vendors, and entertainment while giving residents the opportunity to interact with officers in a relaxed setting.

Along with games and music, public safety officials will distribute backpacks, school supply kits, and other classroom essentials while supplies last. The event also serves as an opportunity to educate families about statewide safety programs, including the Missing Persons Clearinghouse and the alert systems used when children, seniors, and other vulnerable individuals go missing.
Law enforcement leaders said National Night Out is designed to help build trust by encouraging conversations outside of traffic stops or emergency calls. Organizers hope those interactions make it easier for community members to seek help, report concerns, and learn about services available through local and state agencies.
The celebration runs Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Franklin Miles Park, with activities open to residents of all ages.
