The Wylie and Wylie East tennis squads headed to Rockwall last week to compete in the District 9-6A tournament.
Both programs earned spots at the Region II-6A meet scheduled for April 20-21 in Waco. Wylie enjoyed a particularly strong showing, taking district titles in all five flight categories and also securing regional berths with second-place finishes in boys singles and mixed doubles.
Sophomore Ella Garza dominated the girls singles final, winning 6-0, 6-1 to capture the 9-6A crown.
In boys singles, sophomore Ryan Han claimed the district championship with a straight-sets victory, 6-2, 6-1.
The Kommera sisters—senior Anvitha and sophomore Snehitha—took first in girls doubles, closing out their final with two 6-2 sets.
Wylie’s senior Kushal Sheth teamed with junior Brandon Wallace to win the boys doubles title, finishing off the final 6-1, 6-1.
The mixed doubles final was among the tournament’s closest matches. Senior Renner To and junior Vaishali Kumar edged their opponents, prevailing 7-6 in a third-set tiebreaker to earn the district championship.
Freshman Kyle Fain secured a regional spot by placing second in boys singles, and the mixed doubles tandem of junior Elliot Halpin and sophomore Lola Claire Smith also advanced after finishing as runners-up.
Wylie East will send two doubles teams to the regional tournament.
Seniors Wyatt Kelley and Tai Stamps qualified for Waco with a second-place finish in boys doubles, while seniors Ruby Sullivan and Monicah Kanyangi earned their regional berth by placing second in girls doubles.
