Margate police and fire rescue responded to a 911 call on Sunday after a mother and her 2‑year‑old daughter were found lying on a sidewalk near Northwest First Street, apparently struck by lightning during a severe storm.

First responders performed CPR at the scene and transported both victims to area hospitals, where they were pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

Eyewitness account

Neighbor Prince Moody said he heard a loud boom and saw an orange flash from his window. “The lightning strike was so powerful it made my house shake,” he recalled. Moody ran outside and found the mother and child next to a car with smoke emanating from it. He called 911 while other neighbors gathered to help.

Family response

The mother was identified as 31‑year‑old Kenya Glasgow. Her husband, Kameron Glasgow, posted on social media that the family had just arrived at his aunt’s house for dinner when the storm turned. He expressed his grief, noting that their surviving daughter now faces the loss of her twin sister.
