Labor Day Weekend Brings Concerts and Outdoor Adventures to Aspen

Labor Day weekend marks a rare overlap of summer warmth and the first hints of autumn in Aspen, Colorado. The 2026 JAS Labor Day Experience returns to Snowmass Town Park from September 4–6, offering three days of outdoor concerts set against the Elk Mountains.

Live Music Lineup

Friday night opens with Benson Boone, followed by country star Tim McGraw on Saturday and The Red Clay Strays on Sunday. Additional performers include Bonnie Raitt, Shaboozey, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Avery Anna and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram.

Early Fall Hiking Opportunities

Visitors can sample the season on a variety of trails. Smuggler Mountain provides an easy hike with town and mountain views. More challenging routes lead to American Lake and Cathedral Lake, both winding through aspen groves to high‑alpine lakes. For seasoned hikers, the Snowmass Lake Trail ventures deep into the Maroon Bells‑Snowmass Wilderness, rewarding trekkers with dramatic backcountry scenery. The Crested Butte‑to‑Aspen hike crosses West Maroon Pass, linking two iconic mountain towns.

Scenic Drives

Those preferring a drive can ascend Independence Pass, climbing above 12,000 feet and offering pullouts for short walks. Castle Creek Road leads toward the historic silver‑mining town of Ashcroft, winding through dense aspen stands that turn golden in September. Heading down the valley toward Redstone and Marble follows the Crystal River, then over McClure Pass toward the North Fork Valley and Paonia.

Summer Activities Still Available

Early September still supports summer pursuits. Cyclists can ride toward the Maroon Bells or follow the Rio Grande Trail to Woody Creek. Anglers may fish the Roaring Fork or Fryingpan rivers, while guided 4×4 tours explore the surrounding backcountry. Water sports remain popular at Kodiak Lake in the Roaring Fork Valley, where paddleboarding, water‑skiing, wakeboarding, wake‑surfing and wake‑foiling are all on offer.

Where to Stay

The Gant Aspen, set in a quiet five‑acre enclave at the base of Aspen Mountain, provides condominium‑style units with kitchens, dining areas and private balconies or patios—ideal for longer stays. Its “local before global” philosophy connects guests with Roaring Fork Valley guides, artisans and businesses through Gant Crafted Experiences, ranging from fly‑fishing trips to Paonia wine tastings, stargazing, glassblowing and more. The resort’s mobile artist‑in‑residence program, Rolling Canvas, showcases local artwork on its vans, bringing a touch of Aspen’s creative spirit to the road.

With summer adventures still thriving, the first colors of fall beginning to appear, and major musical acts performing beneath the peaks, Labor Day in Aspen offers a unique blend of recreation, culture and natural beauty that lasts only a short while—making it a timely reason to visit while the moment endures.
