The World Cup semifinal match between Spain and France at Dallas Stadium in Arlington has put local security teams under the spotlight. Andrew Giuliani, who leads President Donald Trump’s FIFA World Cup Task Force, said that security teams must remain vigilant despite no major security incidents in the previous eight World Cup matches in Dallas.
Security Concerns
Giuliani stated that the biggest concern is not a known threat, but rather complacency. Law enforcement teams have spent over 30 days monitoring intelligence, controlling stadium crowds, and guarding restricted airspace against drone threats. More than a dozen people have been arrested for attempting to sneak into previous matches without tickets, and one person was able to get inside and elude capture.
Security officials have also dealt with drone concerns, seizing at least 84 drones suspected of illegally flying in restricted airspace around Dallas Stadium and the fan festival at Dallas Fair Park. Giuliani said that the number of seized drones was not a surprise and that he expected many drones would be seized.
Security Measures
Giuliani said that the security plan remains largely the same as it was for previous matches, including intense monitoring for potential threats. He expressed confidence in the security team, stating that they have done a fantastic job in Dallas and Arlington.
