Wilmer Mayor Sheila Petta submitted her resignation letter, effective July 10, 2026. Petta had been reelected for another two years in May and had served the city for over a decade.
Petta’s resignation letter stated, “It is with mixed emotions that I submit my resignation as Mayor of the City of Wilmer, effective July 10, 2026. Serving the residents of Wilmer has been one of the greatest honors of my life.”
During her time as mayor, Petta earned a certified municipal official designation through the Texas Municipal League and represented Wilmer on several councils, including the Texas Municipal League Small Cities Advisory Council and the North Texas Mayors Economic Council.
Wilmer City Administrator Frank Posada expressed appreciation for Petta’s work and dedication to the city.
