The Texas Rangers had a successful first day of the MLB draft, selecting top high school pitcher Gio Rojas in the first round and 17-year-old infielder Connor Comeau in the second round.
Rojas and Comeau
Rojas, considered the top high school pitcher in the draft, was selected 16th overall. Comeau, who had wowed club officials during a recent workout, was taken 54th overall.
According to Rangers scouting director Kip Fagg, Rojas was the best pitcher in the draft. Fagg expressed surprise that Rojas was still available when the Rangers’ pick came up.
The Rangers also selected a 6-9 lefty who hits 100 mph and was ranked as a top 25 talent in the third round.
