Vegas Golden Knights lock up captain Mark Stone with two‑year, $18 million extension

Las Vegas – The Vegas Golden Knights have secured their captain, Mark Stone, on a new two‑year contract worth $18 million. The extension, announced Saturday, will keep the 34‑year‑old forward under contract through the 2028‑29 season.

Stone’s impact on the team

Stone matched his career best last season, posting 73 points (28 goals, 45 assists) in 60 games. Since arriving in Vegas on February 25, 2019, after a trade with Ottawa, he has accumulated 396 points (136 goals, 260 assists) in 400 games for the Golden Knights.

Over his entire NHL career, Stone now totals 707 points (259 goals, 448 assists) in 766 games played with both the Ottawa Senators and the Golden Knights. His postseason résumé is equally impressive, with 97 points (48 goals, 49 assists) in 97 playoff games, including 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists) during the Knights’ 2023 Stanley Cup run.

Why the extension matters

Keeping Stone in Las Vegas reinforces the franchise’s commitment to stability and veteran leadership. As captain, Stone’s work ethic, two‑way play, and community involvement embody the values that the Golden Knights and their fans cherish. The contract also signals confidence from ownership that the team will remain competitive in the Western Conference for years to come.

Local businesses and fans alike benefit from having a star player who is deeply rooted in the community. Stone’s presence helps drive ticket sales, merchandise revenue, and regional pride, all of which contribute to the broader Nevada economy.

Looking ahead

The Golden Knights will enter the 2026‑27 season with a clear roster core, anchored by Stone’s leadership on and off the ice. Coach Bruce Cassidy and General Manager Kelly McCrimmon have indicated that the team will continue to build around its core while adding depth where needed.

Fans can expect Stone to remain a key figure in the locker room and a reliable performer on the power play and penalty kill. His contract extension provides a measure of certainty for the franchise as it plans future roster moves and marketing initiatives.

Community connection

Beyond the rink, Stone is known for his charitable work in Las Vegas, supporting local youth hockey programs and participating in community outreach events. The extension ensures that these contributions will continue, strengthening the bond between the team and the city.

With the contract now in place, the Golden Knights can focus on the upcoming season’s goals: contending for another Stanley Cup and delivering exciting hockey for the fans who have embraced the team since its inaugural year.
