Trump’s Shift in Tone
However, on Tuesday, Trump seemed to shrug off Beijing’s actions, saying the US would discuss the matter with Chinese officials but previewing no punishment. He also claimed the alleged breach was in the rearview mirror, stating that China is maybe a little bit different today than it was then.
Trump further downplayed the issue by saying that the alleged infringement was no different from US actions against China, stating that they do things and we do things to them, and that it’s not a one-way street.
