Cole Hauser, who reprises his role as Rip Wheeler in the ‘Yellowstone’ spin-off ‘Dutton Ranch’, has opened up about the challenges the cast faced during the show’s first season. Hauser acknowledged that not having Taylor Sheridan, the creator of the ‘Yellowstone’ franchise, in the writers’ room presented difficulties for the cast and crew.
Transitioning to a New Creative Team
Hauser explained that the transition to a new creative team, led by showrunner Chad Feehan, was not seamless. Despite the challenges, Hauser expressed his pride in what the cast and crew accomplished and looks forward to continuing their work on the show.
Hauser’s comments come after speculation surrounding the show’s creative direction, following blunt comments from co-star Ed Harris. Harris expressed disappointment with how his character, Everett McKinney, was handled during the first season, feeling that he was not used as promised and that a scene in which his character sang was cut from the final edit.
Producers have assured Harris that his role will expand when production resumes for the second season. The ‘Dutton Ranch’ series, which wrapped its first season earlier this month, marked the first series in the ‘Yellowstone’ universe not to be written by Sheridan.
