The National Weather Service has released more information about the July 27th tornado that hit the Fox Cities. The tornado initially touched down at the intersection of West Harvest and North McIntosh Drives in Appleton at 11:56 am.
Tornado Details
The tornado followed a southerly path for just over 12 miles, forming a waterspout on northern Lake Winnebago before dissipating at 12:22 pm. Top winds are estimated at 140 miles an hour. At its peak, the tornado was an estimated mile wide as it crossed State Highway 441, making it one of the largest tornadoes to ever hit Northeast Wisconsin in recorded history.
