Wylie and Wylie East turned strong district showings into record performances at last Thursday’s Area 9-6A/10-6A meet in Royse City. Wylie East set five school records and advanced 19 entries to regionals. Wylie also broke a school mark and sent nine qualifiers to the regional meet.
Wylie East sophomore Toi Ardoin led the way on the boys side. He broke the school record in the 100 meters with a winning time of 10.26 seconds. Ardoin also placed second in the 200 (21.81) and helped the 4×100 relay team to a third-place finish (41.57) with Inobiong Ekpo, Charles Perry and Rukevwe Eruvwetaghware.

The Lady Raiders piled up 130 points to win the girls team title. Egypt Baxter set a school record in the 200 with a time of 24.8. Oluwaseyi Ajakaiye set the girls 400 school mark with a 57.2. Landry Titsworth won the long jump with a school-record leap of 19 feet, 5 inches and added third in the 100 hurdles (14.7).
Sophomore Evangeline Williams scored 20 points for Wylie East by winning the 1,600 (5:01.48) and the 3,200 (11:16.33). Senior Madison Akers finished second in both the 800 (2:16.27) and the 1,600 (5:03.58). Junior Elliana Young won the high jump with a clearance of 5-7.
On the boys side for Wylie East, junior Tyree Washington won the triple jump (48-6). Porter Cantrell finished second in the discus (145-10). Hudson Sepe took second in the pole vault (14-0) and Kaleab Endale was third in the 3,200 (9:36).
Wylie also had strong showings and qualified nine entries for regionals. The girls 4×200 relay of Jaida Simpson, Ida Varghese, Taylor Williams and Madison Kemp ran 1:41.79 to place fourth. Senior Simi Shodunke was third in the triple jump (38-3).
Senior Brady Kemp qualified for regionals in the 1,600 (second, 4:18.63) and the 800 (fourth, 1:57.39). Senior Zach Brumfield also qualified in the 800 with a second-place time of 1:52.22. Senior Cash Nweze finished second in the high jump (6-4) and Noah Smith placed fourth in the pole vault (14-0). Aaron Lewis took second in the 400 (48.96) and joined Bryce Ogola, Aiden Harlow and Camden Love on the 4×400 that finished fourth (3:19.57).
Both schools now turn their focus to the Region II-6A meet in Waco. Wylie East will send 19 entries, and Wylie will send nine. The athletes and coaches will use the next weeks to prepare for the regional competition.
