Wylie’s Zach Alshali Named Unanimous District 9-6A Boys Soccer MVP

Wylie senior forward Zach Alshali (10) was recently named the unanimous selection for Most Valuable Player in District 9-6A.

Coaches in District 9-6A have announced their all-district boys and girls teams. The biggest headline came on the boys side. Wylie senior forward Zach Alshali was a unanimous choice for MVP. He scored 21 goals in 22 matches and helped the Pirates reach the Region II-6A Division I semifinals.

Wylie collected several of the boys’ top awards. Senior midfielder/wing Logan Montgomery was named the 9-6A Utility Player of the Year. His brother, freshman Luke Montgomery, earned Offensive Newcomer of the Year. Freshman goalkeeper Cristiano Reyna was chosen Co-Defensive Newcomer of the Year.

Wylie’s boys first-team selections were senior midfielders Diego Garcia and Sebastian Sanchez, senior defender Gabriel Reyez and junior Carson Black. Second-team picks were seniors Bharath Arulkumar and Talan Weston, junior Jonathan Kassa and sophomore Edil Quiroz-Medina. Senior midfielders Garrison Bal and Joel Gonzalez were on the second team. Senior goalkeeper Elijah Thompson, junior center back Max Kim and freshman forward Braylon Dyess earned honorable mentions.

The girls’ awards were led by Wylie junior Kennedy Butler. She was named District 9-6A Offensive Player of the Year. Butler scored two goals in overtime in a 3-1 win over Rockwall-Heath in bi-district and finished the season with 31 goals. Senior Taylor Kelly was named Midfielder of the Year.

Wylie East also had top girls performers. Senior Trystan Wischnewsky was named Defensive Player of the Year. She scored in Wylie East’s 3-1 loss to Forney in the Region II-6A Division I final. Freshman Sarah Schwarte was named Defensive Newcomer of the Year.
