Texas Data Center Plans Scrapped

A proposed data center in Texas has withdrawn its plans after failing to meet Governor Greg Abbott’s standards. Diode Ventures, the developer, sent a notice to county officials stating that the project did not meet expectations.

Background

Gov. Abbott had set expectations in a June 10 directive to the Public Utilities Commission and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. The governor aims to require data centers to report their annual electricity and water usage to the PUC and repeal sales tax exemptions and other outdated or unnecessary incentives for data centers.

The proposed data center was originally planned for Henderson County, southeast of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Diode Ventures is a Kansas-based developer.
