In a remarkable turn of events, deputies from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office have successfully recovered a $70,000 metal T-Rex statue that had been missing for several months. The statue, a custom-made piece weighing 400 pounds, was stolen from its location in north Spokane County on March 8.
Community Tips Lead to Recovery
The search for the stolen dinosaur was fueled by community involvement. The Sheriff’s Office received numerous tips, including reports of a similar-looking statue seen in a black SUV and featured on social media. However, these leads did not lead to the original statue, prompting the deputies to continue their diligent search.
On May 22, a breakthrough came when an anonymous tip directed deputies to a location approximately 30 minutes north of where the statue was initially taken. With the consent of the landowners, who were unaware of the statue’s presence, deputies uncovered the T-Rex buried in the ground.
Return and Investigation
Due to its size and weight, the statue required the assistance of tow trucks to be extracted from the dirt. It has since been returned to its rightful owners, who are now focused on repairing the minor damages incurred during its disappearance.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the theft, and as of now, no arrests or charges have been made. The timeline for the statue’s return to its original perch remains uncertain.
