Jackson County Library Encourages Dads to Bond with Families Through Toolboxes

This summer, fathers in Jackson County, Kentucky, have a unique opportunity to strengthen family bonds, thanks to an initiative by the Jackson County Public Library. The library is distributing ‘Together Time Toolboxes’ designed to encourage dads to spend quality time with their children.

Supporting Family Bonds

Library Director Ashley Wagers explained that the program aims to foster stronger family relationships by providing resources that facilitate family activities. The toolboxes include books, games, and other materials that promote mental health and wellness. Additionally, they contain family safety items, such as smoke detectors, a response to recent fires in the community.

The initiative is supported by the Commonwealth Center for Fathers and Families (CCFF), which highlights the positive impact of involved fathers. According to CCFF, children with engaged fathers are significantly more likely to achieve high grades and less likely to repeat a grade.

Community Impact

Kimberly Mullins, credited with the idea for the toolboxes, emphasized the long-term benefits of fathers actively participating in their children’s lives. ‘As a mom and grandmother, I want every dad to understand the importance of working with their children,’ she said.

All 100 toolboxes have been registered for and will be distributed next week. The library hopes this program will empower fathers to realize their vital role in their children’s development and well-being.
