Spanish National Tests Positive for Hantavirus After Cruise Ship Evacuation

A Spanish national, recently evacuated from the MV Hondius cruise ship, has tested positive for hantavirus, according to Spain’s Ministry of Health. The individual is currently in isolation at the Gómez Ulla Central Defense Hospital in Madrid. This patient is among 14 Spaniards who have been quarantined at the hospital since May 10.

Health Measures and Public Reassurance

The Ministry of Health has assured the public that the case was detected within the existing isolation and control system, which means the risk level for the general population remains unchanged. The patient, identified as a close contact through epidemiological monitoring, has been transferred to the hospital’s High-Level Isolation Unit (UATAN) for specialized medical supervision.

With this new case, the total number of confirmed hantavirus cases among the Spanish passengers and crew members from the MV Hondius has risen to two. The Ministry emphasized that the current epidemiological response measures are adequate and continue to be enforced.

The situation is being closely monitored, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
