Strong Thunderstorm Alert for East Central Las Animas County

The National Weather Service in Pueblo, Colorado, has issued a special weather statement for east central Las Animas County. At 12:45 PM MDT, Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm approximately 19 miles northwest of Kim, moving northeast at 15 mph.

Weather Hazards

This storm poses a risk of wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph and hail the size of pennies. These conditions could result in minor damage, such as knocking down tree limbs and blowing around unsecured objects. Residents in the affected areas are advised to seek shelter indoors to avoid potential harm.

The storm is expected to remain primarily over rural areas, minimizing its impact on populated regions. However, those in the vicinity should remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property.

Community Preparedness

While the storm is not anticipated to cause significant damage, it serves as a reminder for residents to review their emergency preparedness plans. Ensuring that outdoor items are secured and that family members know where to seek shelter during severe weather can help mitigate risks.

As always, the safety of our community is paramount. Stay informed by monitoring local weather updates and following guidance from local authorities.
