The City of Shawano’s new recreation center is nearing completion, with a grand opening celebration planned for September 12. According to Matt Hendricks, City of Shawano Parks and Recreation Director, the center has been transformed into a community hub.
Upgrades and Improvements
The original recreation center, built in the 1950s, has undergone significant upgrades, including a new weight room with state-of-the-art equipment and high-tech classrooms. A technology grant from the state covered most of the nearly $6 million project.
City leaders aim to provide a space for physical activity, education, and social engagement, especially during the winter months. The old swimming pool will be available, and the center is scheduled to open to the public on August 24.
