The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is asking anglers to voluntarily avoid fishing at Muddy Guard No. 1 and North Sayles ponds on the Bud Love Wildlife Habitat Management Area near Buffalo. This request is due to high water temperatures, which can decrease oxygen levels and make it harder for fish to recover from being caught.
Temperature Concerns
According to Christina Schmidt, Public Information Specialist for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, water temperatures between 65 to 70 degrees can be particularly problematic for fish. Even catch-and-release fishing can be detrimental to the fish in these conditions, as the depleted oxygen and exhaustion from being caught can still cause harm.
Anglers are advised to carry a pocket thermometer to test the water temperature before fishing and to consider alternative locations or times, such as higher elevation areas or early morning fishing when the water is cooler.
