The Pyrotechnics Guild International is hosting its annual convention at the Wisconsin International Raceway in the Town of Buchanan, near Kaukauna, drawing approximately 20,000 visitors and a significant economic boost to the area.

Convention Details

The convention includes a weeklong event of pyrotechnic training, emphasizing safety and the safe use of fireworks. The organization also trains fire departments on how to handle pyrotechnics. Visitors can enjoy three fireworks shows, a trade show, and even witness the making of fireworks.

The event is expected to inject nearly $5 million into the Fox Cities economy. Additionally, the organization is contributing to the local community by organizing a blood drive with over 60 donors and raising money to support tornado victims.

However, the convention has also raised concerns among neighbors due to the significant noise it generates. Neighbors have reported that the noise has caused their babies to wake up late at night, shaken their houses, and scared their pets.

Response to Noise Concerns

Town Supervisor Tom Meyer acknowledged the complaints, stating, “I do take your complaints very, very seriously. I know that a number of folks around here are losing a bunch of sleep and that sucks.” Meyer voted in favor of issuing a permit to the Pyrotechnics Guild.

Connie Widmann, Media Chair of the Pyrotechnics Guild International, encouraged neighbors to visit the convention, saying, “Well, they should come on down. We are a volunteer organization dedicated to the safety and training of fireworks.” The convention will run through Friday night.

This year marks the last time the convention will be held at Wisconsin International Raceway, as it will be moving out of state in 2027 due to the construction of a new middle school next door.
