In Fort Wayne, Indiana, a semi-truck accident led to multiple injuries on Tuesday afternoon when the vehicle lost control and crashed into a laundromat on West Jefferson Boulevard. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. at Laundry Xpress, located at 2439 W. Jefferson Blvd., directly across from SweetCars.
Details of the Incident
According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, the semi-truck was traveling westbound when the driver lost control, causing the truck to enter the laundromat parking lot. In a chain-reaction collision, the semi struck three vehicles, one of which was propelled through the front of the laundromat and into the building.
The semi-truck partially entered the structure, while an SUV and a pickup truck, also hit by the semi, crashed into the front of the building. Emergency crews had to rescue the semi driver, who was briefly pinned inside the truck. Fortunately, the driver sustained only non-life-threatening injuries.
Impact on the Laundromat
Inside the laundromat, several washing machines were damaged, and at least five people were injured, all with non-life-threatening injuries. One individual was trapped beneath debris and required assistance to be safely removed from the building. Fort Wayne Police Department Public Information Officer Adam Hartman remarked on the fortunate outcome, stating, “It’s a big miracle that no one was seriously hurt or even died in this crash.”
Ongoing Investigation
Emergency crews remained on the scene throughout Tuesday afternoon as investigators worked to determine the cause of the semi driver’s loss of control. The crash resulted in significant traffic delays, with West Jefferson Boulevard reduced to one lane. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
