A seaplane operated by Tropic Ocean Airways crashed in Bahamian waters on August 1, but all 10 occupants on board, including 8 passengers and 2 crew members, were safely evacuated without any injuries.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force reported that the seaplane, a 2014 Cessna 208B Grand Caravan, was attempting to depart when it encountered heavy vessel traffic and diverted northward in search of a safer route. However, while taxiing on the water, the aircraft began pulling to the left and collided with a dock.
Despite efforts to correct the seaplane’s course, it failed to respond and later sank in 100 feet of water. The Police Force said an investigation into the incident is ongoing and government agencies were notified.
Tropic Ocean Airways operates out of Fort Lauderdale, and the plane is owned by FloatSix Leasing, LLC based in Lubbock, Texas.
