Schneider Electric’s India Data Center Growth Surges Amid AI Demand

Schneider Electric is forecasting robust growth in its India data center operations, driven by an increasing demand for AI-ready infrastructure. According to Sumati Sahgal, vice-president for Secure Power and Data Centres, Greater India Zone, the data center segment is expected to grow at a double-digit pace, surpassing the growth of the company’s broader operations in the country over the next four to five years.

AI Infrastructure Demand

Currently, data centers constitute 15% to 20% of Schneider Electric’s business in India. With the anticipated surge, this segment is poised to become a more significant part of the company’s portfolio. Sahgal highlighted that data centers and grid modernization are among the strongest growth themes for the company.

Projections indicate that India’s data center market could reach $31.36 billion by 2035, with a compounded annual growth rate of 13.37%, as reported by Astute Analytica. The country’s data center capacity is expected to increase from 1.5 gigawatts to 6-7 gigawatts by 2030, with investments expanding beyond major cities like Mumbai and Chennai to states such as Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Local Manufacturing and Infrastructure

India is emerging as a hub for both consumption and manufacturing of data center power and cooling equipment. This growth is fueled by demand from hyperscalers, colocation operators, and enterprises seeking integrated infrastructure and services. Schneider Electric is well-positioned in this market, supplying critical infrastructure components such as UPS systems, switchgear, power distribution units, precision cooling, and energy management software.

The company covers the full spectrum of data center needs, from power and cooling solutions to software and services, with a strong emphasis on local manufacturing. Schneider Electric Infrastructure, the company’s India-listed entity, produces electrical distribution equipment, including transformers and switchgear, while the broader business spans energy management, automation, and digital infrastructure.
