Rumba Island Bar & Grill has closed its St. Petersburg location, according to owner Frank Chivas. The restaurant, which opened in February 2023, was known for its Caribbean-influenced seafood dishes and tropical cocktails.
Closure and Rebranding
Chivas confirmed the closure to the Catalyst, stating that they are looking at doing a rebrand, but declined to elaborate further. The closure is also reflected on Baystar Restaurant Group’s website, which lists the St. Petersburg restaurant as “Closed”.
Some customers, such as Lon and Cynthia Southerland, were surprised by the sudden closure. The couple had been regulars at the restaurant, visiting two to three times a week. They expressed disappointment at the lack of communication from the restaurant, with no signs on the door indicating the closure.
