Drivers in the Gibsonton and Sunshine Acres areas will need to plan for extra travel time or adjust their routes starting today. A busy stretch of Riverview Drive is shutting down during daytime hours to allow crews to complete utility installations and infrastructure improvements.
Construction Details
The construction work involves several updates, including the replacement of transmission poles along the corridor. To keep workers and drivers safe, Riverview Drive will be completely closed to through traffic from U.S. Highway 41 to Crowell Drive.
The closures will not be dynamic or 24-hour disruptions. Instead, the road will block off daily between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The schedule begins today, Wednesday, June 24, and is expected to run through next Tuesday, June 30.
Detour Options
Hillsborough County officials have established two primary detour options to help motorists navigate around the work zone.
The first detour option directs drivers to take Riverview Drive to South 78th Street, follow Madison Avenue out to U.S. Highway 41, and then reconnect back to Riverview Drive.
The second detour route sends traffic from Riverview Drive over to U.S. Highway 301, down Gibsonton Drive to U.S. Highway 41, and back onto Riverview Drive.
Area drivers who rely on GPS won’t have to guess their way through the detours. Local navigation apps have already been updated with the closure details and will automatically route drivers around the construction zone during the active work hours.
