Prineville OHV Trails Temporarily Closed for King of the Kastle Race

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Prineville, Oregon, has announced a temporary closure of sections of the Millican Plateau and North Millican off-highway vehicle (OHV) trail systems. This closure, scheduled from June 5 to June 7, 2026, is to accommodate the annual King of the Kastle side-by-side race, ensuring the safety of both participants and the public.

Trail Closures and Safety Measures

The temporary closure will specifically affect the racecourse and several access points in the area. To maintain security and safety, personnel will be stationed at entrance points along the racecourse throughout the weekend. Additionally, flaggers and signage will be present along George Millican Road and at entrance points on the racecourse.

Lisa Clark, the Deschutes Field Office Manager, emphasized the BLM’s commitment to providing recreational opportunities while prioritizing safety. She assured visitors that despite the closures, a wide range of riding locations remain accessible, thanks to the extensive network of over 250 miles of trails within the Millican Plateau, North Millican, and South Millican OHV Trail Systems.

Alternative Riding Locations

For those seeking alternative riding options during the race weekend, the South Millican OHV Trail System, located south of Highway 20 from George Millican Road, remains open. Additionally, the Cline Buttes area, situated west of Redmond, offers further riding opportunities.

The high-quality trails and facilities within the Millican Valley OHV Trail System are managed through a collaborative effort known as the Central Oregon Combined Off Highway Vehicle Operations (COHVOPS). This partnership includes the Prineville District BLM, Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests, and the Oregon Parks and Recreation all-terrain vehicle Program.

For any questions regarding the trail closures, the Prineville District office can be contacted at (541) 416-6700.
