Casper City Council to Decide on 14th Street Project Amid Resident Concerns

The Casper City Council is set to deliberate on whether to abandon the 14th Street Improvements Local Assessment District (LAD) following significant resident opposition. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Casper City Hall, located at 200 N. David St.

The LAD was initially established to address the deteriorating condition of 14th Street between Wolcott Street and McKinley Street. City Engineer Alex Sveda previously reported that the street received a Pavement Condition Index score of just 38 out of 100, indicating a need for improvement.

In addition to the 14th Street discussion, the city council will hold a public hearing and vote on the first reading of a proposed moratorium on new gambling ventures. This measure reflects a cautious approach to gambling expansion in the community.

Other agenda items include a vote to accept a $150,000 grant aimed at funding a new lift at Hogadon Area Ski Basin. This project is expected to enhance local recreational opportunities and support the area’s tourism economy.

The council will also consider adjustments to the downtown open container season, which could impact local businesses and community events. These discussions highlight the council’s ongoing efforts to balance community interests with regulatory measures.

Residents can access the full agenda on the city’s website, and the meeting will be livestreamed on the city’s YouTube page for those unable to attend in person.
