Orlando nonprofit hosts ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbows’ to support grieving families

Orlando families facing the heartbreaking loss of a baby will have a chance to find community and healing at an upcoming event hosted by the local nonprofit Chasing the Rainbows. The organization, which dedicates its mission to supporting grieving parents, is holding “Somewhere Over the Rainbows” on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Abbey, a venue in the heart of the city.

Event purpose and support services

Dr. Mark Trolice, co‑chair of Chasing the Rainbows’ medical advisory council, explained that the event is designed to break the isolation many families feel after losing a baby. “We provide resources, community, and a safe space for families to share their grief and find resilience,” he said. Attendees can expect to connect with other parents who understand their experience, hear from professionals about coping strategies, and learn about ongoing support programs offered by the nonprofit.

What to expect at the gathering

The evening will feature a relaxed atmosphere with light refreshments, gentle music, and opportunities for quiet conversation. Information tables will display brochures on counseling services, support groups, and memorial options. In addition, a short panel of volunteer speakers—parents who have walked the same path—will share personal stories of hope and recovery.

How the event benefits the organization

All proceeds from “Somewhere Over the Rainbows” will go directly to Chasing the Rainbows’ programs, helping to expand counseling services, develop new educational materials, and fund outreach efforts throughout Central Florida. The nonprofit relies on community generosity to sustain its work, and the event offers a tangible way for local residents and businesses to contribute.

Community involvement and volunteer opportunities

Chasing the Rainbows welcomes volunteers to assist with set‑up, greeting guests, and managing resource tables. Local churches, schools, and civic groups have already expressed interest in supporting the cause, underscoring the broad desire within Orlando to care for families in their most vulnerable moments.

How to attend

The event is free and open to anyone who wishes to attend, whether they are directly affected by infant loss or simply want to show solidarity. Families are encouraged to register in advance through the organization’s website to help planners estimate attendance and ensure adequate seating.

About Chasing the Rainbows

Founded in 2015, Chasing the Rainbows provides grief counseling, support groups, and educational resources to families who have experienced the loss of a baby. The nonprofit operates out of Central Florida and partners with hospitals, faith communities, and mental‑health professionals to reach families across the region.
