German automaker Opel has finalized its driver lineup for the upcoming 2026‑27 Formula E season. The team, operating under the name Opel GSE Formula E Team, will field French prospect Théo Pourchaire alongside seasoned New Zealand racer Mitch Evans.

Evans brings a decade of experience

Evans arrives with ten years of Formula E competition and 16 race victories, most of them earned while driving for Jaguar. He captured two wins in the 2025‑26 season and finished third in the drivers’ championship. In a media statement, Evans said he is “proud to be an Opel works driver and to be part of this new chapter in Formula E,” adding that the transition to the GEN4 cars offers the perfect moment for a fresh challenge.

Team’s vision and goals

Opel team principal Jörg Schrott described the driver selection as a “statement of intent.” He noted that Evans was the preferred candidate from the start, emphasizing the driver’s “undisputed exceptional sporting pedigree” and personal fit with the team culture. GEN4 era and season start

The 2026‑27 season will debut the GEN4 generation of Formula E cars, capable of exceeding 335 km/h (about 208 mph) and accelerating from 0 to 100 kph in roughly 1.8 seconds. The new chassis delivers about 50 % more power in race mode than the previous GEN3 models and features permanent all‑wheel drive. The season opens in São Paulo in December.

Evans reiterated his ambition to win the world championship, stating that the move to Opel aligns with his goal of securing the title. He expressed confidence that his decade‑long experience will help the team achieve strong results alongside Pourchaire.
